Ignition System: Testing: IGNITOR

  1. On Legend models, remove distributor. On both models, remove ignitor cover and pull out ignitor assembly. With ignition in "ON" position, check voltage between No. 1 Blue terminal and body ground. See Fig 1. Also check voltage between Blue/Yellow wire and body ground. Voltage should be 12 volts.
  2. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between "G" and No. 2 Blue wire on pick-up coil. Pick-up coil resistance is 650-850 ohms at 70°F (20°C).
  3. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity in both directions between "C" and "D" terminals on ignitor output. See Fig 2. Continuity should be present in only one direction. Connect ohmmeter positive probe to "A" terminal and negative probe to ignitor unit ground. Measure resistance of ignitor input. Ignitor input resistance is 50,000 ohms or more at 70°F (20°C).
