Ignition Coil

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiring from ignition coil terminals. To check primary winding resistance, connect an ohmmeter across coil terminals "A" and "D". Check secondary winding resistance between terminal "A" and secondary terminal. Also check resistance across terminals "B" and "D". See Fig 1. Check that resistance is within specifications shown in IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS  table.

    IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

    Terminals Specification (Ohms)
    "A" and "D" 1.2 to 1.5
"A" and Secondary Winding Terminal 9,040 to 13,560
    "B" and "D" Approx. 2,200 Ohms
  2. Set ohmmeter to x1000 range and connect ohmmeter leads to ignition coil positive terminal and coil tower terminal. If readings are not within specification, replace ignition coil.
