Code 14: Electronic Air Control Valve (EACV)

NOTE: For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. For vacuum diagrams, see VACUUM DIAGRAMS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.
  1. Turn ignition off. Remove ACG fuse in underdash fuse box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Start engine, and connect jumper wire to diagnostic connector. Observe CHECK ENGINE light. If light is not flashing, disconnect EACV connector. If engine speed drops, problem is intermittent. Check for poor and loose connections at EACV wires, ECU and C356 at right shock tower. Test drive, and check again.
  2. If CHECK ENGINE light flashes Code 14, turn ignition off. Disconnect 2-pin connector at EACV. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Yellow/Black EACV wire terminal and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Yellow/Black wire between EACV and main relay.
  3. Turn ignition off. Reconnect 2-pin EACV connector. Connect ECU test harness connector "A" to ECU main harness side only. See Figure . Turn ignition on.
  4. Using a jumper wire, connect and disconnect harness terminals A9 and A26. Listen for clicking from EACV. If clicking is not heard, repair open or short in Blue/Red wire between ECU and EACV. If wire is okay, replace EACV.
  5. If clicking is heard, substitute a known good ECU, and retest. If condition goes away, replace ECU.
