Engine Controls - Sensor Operating Range Charts: Introduction

Sensor operating range information can help determine if a sensor is out of calibration. An out-of-calibration sensor may not set a trouble code, but it may cause driveability problems.

NOTE: Unless stated otherwise in test procedure, perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance.
COOLANT TEMP (TW) SENSOR RESISTANCE TEST (1)

Temperature °F (°C) Resistance (Ohms)
-4 (-20) 15,000-18,000
68 (20) 2000-4000
176 (80)
Integra 200-400
Legend 300-400
(1) Measure resistance across sensor terminals.
DISTRIBUTOR SENSORS RESISTANCE TEST (1)

Application Resistance (Ohms)
Integra
CRANK Sensor 350-700
CYL Sensor 350-700
TDC Sensor 350-700
Legend
CRANK Sensor 600-950
CYL Sensor 600-950
(1) See appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section to identify sensor terminals.
EGR LIFT SENSOR VOLTAGE TEST (1)

Position Approximate Volts
Fully Closed 1.0
Fully Open 4.5
(1) On Integra, measure voltage between terminals C8 (positive) and C12 (negative). On Legend, measure voltage between terminals D12 (positive) and D22 (negative). Voltage should increase smoothly as vacuum is applied.
INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (TA) SENSOR RESISTANCE TEST (1)

Temperature °F (°C) Resistance (Ohms)
-4 (-20) 15,000-18,000
68 (20) 2000-4000
176 (80)
Integra 200-400
Legend 300-400
(1) Measure resistance across sensor terminals.
MAP SENSOR VOLTAGE TEST (1)

Vacuum Applied (In. Hg) Volts
0 2.8-3.0
5 2.3-2.5
10 1.8-2.0
15 1.3-1.5
20 .8-1.0
25 .3-.5
(1) On Integra, measure voltage between ECU terminals C11 (positive) and C12 (negative). On Legend, measure voltage between ECU terminals D17 (positive) and D21 (negative)
OXYGEN SENSOR VOLTAGE TEST (1)

Condition Volts
Lean .1
Rich .9
(1) Measure voltage between ground and O2 sensor terminal using a high- impedance DVOM.
THROTTLE ANGLE SENSOR VOLTAGE TEST (1)

Position Approximate Volts
Fully Closed .1-.5
Fully Open 4.5-4.8
(1) On Integra, measure resistance between terminals C7 (positive) and C12 (negative). On Legend, measure resistance between terminals D11 (positive) and D22 (negative). Voltage should increase smoothly as throttle is opened.
