Commutator Test
- Check for continuity between commutator segments. If continuity is not present, replace armature. Measure commutator mica depth. If mica depth is less than .008", replace commutator.
- Measure commutator runout. If runout exceeds .002", replace commutator. If commutator is burnt or dirty, clean using emery cloth or a lathe. Measure commutator diameter. If diameter is less than service limit, replace commutator. See COMMUTATOR SERVICE LIMIT table.
