Code 15: Ignition Output Signal
- Turn ignition off. Remove BACK UP fuse from underhood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Check ECU for fault codes. See RETRIEVING CODES . If Code 15 is not present, problem is intermittent. Check for poor connections at ECU and ignitor unit. Test drive vehicle and retest.
- If Code 15 is present, turn ignition off. Disconnect 2-wire connector from distributor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Black/Yellow wire and body ground. If battery voltage is present, go to step 3). If battery voltage is not present, check ignition coils. See IGNITION CHECKS in BASIC TESTING article in this section. If ignition coils are okay, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between ignition switch and distributor 2-wire connector.
- If battery voltage is present in step 2), turn ignition off. Reconnect 2-wire connector to distributor. Connect ECU Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A ) between ECU and ECU connector. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between test terminal A26 (-) and test terminals A21 (+) and A22 (+).
- If about 10 volts are not present, check for open or short in Yellow/Green wire between ignitor unit and ECU terminal A21 or A22. If wire is okay, replace ignitor. If about 10 volts are present, substitute a known good ECU. If symptom/condition goes away, replace original ECU.
