Code 17: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- Turn ignition off. Remove BACK UP fuse from underhood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Road test vehicle. While in 2nd gear, accelerate until engine speed reaches 4000 RPM, and then with throttle fully closed decelerate to 1500 RPM.
- Check ECU for fault codes. See RETRIEVING CODES . If Code 17 is not present, problem is intermittent. Check for poor connections at ECU connector. Test drive vehicle and retest.
- If Code 17 is present, raise and support vehicle. Connect ECU Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A ) between ECU and ECU connector. See Figure . Place transaxle in Neutral. Turn ignition on. Slowly rotate left front wheel and measure voltage between test terminals A26 (-) and B10 (+). If voltage pulses 0-12 volts, substitute a known good ECU and retest. If specified voltage is now present, replace original ECU.
- If voltage does not pulse 0-12 volts in step 3), Turn ignition off. Disconnect "B" connector from ECU. Turn ignition on. Block right front wheel and rotate left front wheel while measuring voltage between test terminals A26 and B10. See Figure .
- If voltage does not pulse 0-12 volts, repair short in Yellow/Red wire between ECU terminal B10 (+) and VSS or cruise control unit. If wire is okay, replace VSS. If voltage pulses 0-12 volts, substitute a known good ECU and recheck. If symptom/condition goes away, replace original ECU.
