Code 43 Or 44: Fuel Supply System

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove fuse No. 15 (ACG) from underdash fuse box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Warm engine until cooling fan comes on. With transmission in Neutral, hold engine speed at 3000 RPM for 2 minutes. Check ECU for fault codes. See RETRIEVING CODES  . If Code 43 or 44 is not present, problem is intermittent. Check for poor connections at ECU connector and O2 sensor connector C353. Test drive vehicle and retest.
NOTE: If driveability problems are present, test fuel-related components. See SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.
  2. If Code 43 or 44 is present, turn ignition off for at least 2 minutes. Connect ECU Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A ) between ECU and ECU connector. See Figure .
  3. If Code 43 is present, install a jumper wire between test terminals A10 (+) and A26 (-). Attach a digital voltmeter to test terminals A26 (-) and D14 (+). If Code 44 is present, install a jumper wire between test terminals A12 (+) and A26 (-). Attach a digital voltmeter to test terminals A26 (-) and D16 (+). Turn ignition on.
  4. Voltage should be .4-.5 volt when ignition is turned on, and then drop to below .1 volt within 2 minutes. If voltage is correct, go to step 6). If voltage is not correct, disconnect O2 sensor connector. Measure voltage between O2 sensor wiring harness connector terminals "A" and "B".
  5. If more than 0.1 volt is present, replace O2 sensor. If 0.1 volt or less is present, repair open in Red/Blue wire (right sensor) or White wire (left sensor) between O2 sensor and ECU connector.
  6. If voltage was correct in step 4), disconnect O2 sensor connector. Measure voltage between test terminal D14 (left sensor) or D16 (right sensor) and A26. If more than 0.1 volt is present, replace O2 sensor. If 0.1 volt or less is present, disconnect "D" connector from vehicle wiring harness.
  7. Measure voltage between test terminal D14 or D16 and A26. If more than 1.0 volt is present, repair short in Red/Blue wire (right sensor) or White wire (left sensor) between O2 sensor and ECU connector. If 1.0 volt or less is present, substitute a known good ECU, and recheck. If symptom/problem goes away, replace original ECU.
