Ignition Control Module

NOTE: The tachometer should operate normally. See 1991-92 SELF-DIAGNOSTICS or 1993-94 SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article when malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) blinks. If necessary, perform an input test on the ignition control module (ICM) after finishing the fundamental tests for the ignition system and fuel and emission systems.
  1. Inspect the connector terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
  2. If the terminals look OK, perform ICM input tests.
  3. Disconnect the 8 pin connector from the ICM. See Fig 1 .
  4. Perform circuit tests on the connector as shown in the chart. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct cause, then recheck the system.
  5. If all the input tests prove OK, replace ICM.
