Diagnostic Trouble Code Definitions

If codes other than those listed are indicated, verify the code. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table. If the code indicated is not listed, replace the ECU. The Check Engine light may come on, indicating a system problem, when, in fact, there is a poor or intermittent electrical connection. First, check the electrical connections, clean or repair connections if necessary. If the Check Engine light is on while the engine is running, jump the service check connector. If no code is displayed (Check Engine light stays on steady), the back-up system is in operation. Replace ECU and recheck. If the indication goes away, replace the original ECU.

The Check Engine light and DRIVE gear indicator light may come on simultaneously when the self-diagnosis indicator blinks 6, 7 and 17. Check the PGM-FI system according to the PGM-FI control system troubleshooting and recheck the DRIVE gear indicator light. To check DRIVE gear indicator light, see TRANSMISSION service information. The Check Engine light and TCS indicator light may come on simultaneously when the self-diagnosis indicator blinks 3, 5, 6, 13, 15, 16, 17, 35 and 36. Check the PGM-FI system according to the PGM-FI control system troubleshooting and recheck the TCS indicator light. If it comes on, see TROUBLESHOOTING in ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.

The Check Engine light does not come on when there is a malfunction in the A/T FI signal. However, when the two terminals of the service check connector are connected with a jumper wire, the Check Engine light will indicate the codes.
