Code 15: Ignition Output Signal

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove BACK UP fuse from underhood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Check ECU for fault codes. See RETRIEVING CODES  . If Code 15 is not present, problem is intermittent. Check for poor connections at ECU and ignitor unit. Test drive vehicle and check again.
NOTE: If engine does not start, crank engine for at least 20 seconds to allow code to set in ECU memory.
  2. If Code 15 is present, turn ignition off. Disconnect 4-wire connector from distributor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Black/Yellow wire and body ground. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between ignition coil and ignition switch. If battery voltage is present, measure voltage between Black/Yellow wire and Black wire terminal at ignitor unit connector.
  3. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Black wire between ignitor unit and ground terminal G101 located on intake manifold. See Figure . If battery voltage is present, turn ignition off. Reconnect 4-wire connector to ignitor. Connect ECU Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A ) between ECU and ECU connector.
  4. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between test terminal A26 (-) and test terminals A21 (+) and A22 (+). If about 10 volts are not present, check for open or short in Yellow/Green wire between ignitor unit and ECU terminals A21 or A22. If wire is shorted, ignitor may also be damaged. If wire is okay, replace ignitor. If about 10 volts are present, substitute a known good ECU. If symptom/condition goes away, replace original ECU.
