Dimmer Control Circuit

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove lower dashboard cover. From behind dashboard, push out dimmer switch from dashboard. Unplug dimmer switch connector.
  2. Check for continuity between dimmer switch connector Black wire and ground. Continuity should exist. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire or poor ground connection G301, located at left side of engine compartment next to windshield washer fluid reservoir, or ground connection G401, located behind left kick panel.
  3. With headlight switch on, check for battery voltage between dimmer switch connector Red/Black wire and ground. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace blown fuse No. 11, replace headlight switch, or repair open circuit in Red/Black wire.
  4. With headlight switch on, use a jumper wire to ground dimmer switch connector Red wire. If instrument lights come on, dimmer switch circuits are okay. Replace dimmer switch. If instrument lights do not come on, repair open circuit in Red/Black wire or Red wire from dimmer switch connector.
