Throttle Position (TP) Sensor

  1. Unplug connector from TP sensor, located on throttle body. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Yellow/White (positive) and Green/White (negative) wire terminals. If voltage is not about 5 volts, check wiring between TP sensor and ECM. If wiring is okay, replace ECM.
  2. If voltage is about 5 volts, turn ignition off. Reconnect wire harness to throttle angle sensor. Connect test harness between ECM and vehicle wire harness. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between test harness terminals D11 and D22. Voltage should be about .5 volt with throttle valve at full-closed position, and about 4.5 volts with throttle valve at full-open position. As throttle opens, voltage should increase smoothly from .5 volt to 4.5 volts.
  3. If voltage is not as specified, check for short or open in Red/Blue wire between ECM and TP sensor. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, replace TP sensor.
