Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)

  1. VSS is located at left front wheel. Connect test harness between ECM and VSS harness connectors. Block rear wheels. Set parking brake. Raise and support front of vehicle. Connect voltmeter between test harness terminals A26 and B10.
  2. Turn ignition on. Slowly rotate left front wheel. Voltage should pulsate between zero and 5 volts. If voltage pulsates as specified, go to step 3. If voltage does not pulsate as specified, check for open or short in Yellow/Red wire between ECM terminal B16 and speed sensor. If wire is okay, replace faulty VSS or ECM.
  3. Substitute a known-good ECM, and retest. If problem goes away, replace ECM.
