Code 17: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- Turn ignition off. Remove BACK-UP fuse (7.5-amp) from underhood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECM. Road test vehicle. While in 2nd gear, accelerate until engine speed reaches 4000 RPM and then, with throttle fully closed, decelerate to 1500 RPM.
- Check ECM for fault codes. If Code 17 is not present, problem is intermittent. Check for poor connections at ECM, underdash fuse box and underdash wiring harness connectors. Test drive vehicle and retest.
- If Code 17 is present, raise and support vehicle. Connect ECM Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A ) between ECM and ECM wiring harness connectors. See Figure . Place transaxle in Neutral. Turn ignition on. Slowly rotate left front wheel and measure voltage between test terminals A26 (-) and B10 (+). If voltage pulses 0-12 volts, replace ECM and retest.
- If voltage did not pulse 0-12 volts in step 3, turn ignition off. Disconnect connector "B" from ECM. Turn ignition on. Block right front wheel and rotate left front wheel while measuring voltage between test terminals A26 and B10. See Figure .
- If voltage does not pulse 0-12 volts, repair short or open in Yellow/Red wire between ECM terminal B10 (+) and VSS or cruise control unit. If wire is okay, replace VSS. If voltage pulses 0-12 volts, replace ECM and retest.
