Manual Transmission Neutral Switch

  1. Connect ECM test harness between ECM and ECM connectors. Turn ignition on. Place transmission in Neutral, and measure voltage between ECM terminals B7 (positive) and A26 (negative). See Figure . If voltage is about 10 volts, go to step 4. If voltage is not about 10 volts, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect ECM connector "B" from ECM test harness only. DO NOT  disconnect from ECM. If voltage is now approximately 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not approximately 10 volts, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. If voltage is now approximately 10 volts, replace original ECM.
  3. Reconnect ECM connector "B". Unplug neutral switch 2-wire connector, located on side of transmission. If voltage is now approximately 10 volts, replace neutral switch. If voltage is not approximately 10 volts, repair open in White wire between ECM terminal B7 and neutral switch, or Black wire between neutral switch and ground.
  4. Place transmission into gear. If voltage is not about 10 volts, manual transmission neutral switch is okay. If voltage is about 10 volts, disconnect neutral switch 2-wire connector.
  5. Connect jumper wire between White wire terminal and Black wire terminal of neutral switch. If voltage is not about 10 volts, replace neutral switch. If voltage is about 10 volts, repair open in White wire between ECM and manual transmission neutral switch or Black wire between neutral switch and ground (located at intake manifold).
