Code 2-1, Parking Brake Switch
- Turn ignition on. Set parking brake lever. If BRAKE warning light comes on go to step 5). If light does not come on, check if ANTI-LOCK light is on. If ANTI-LOCK light is on, go to step 3). If ANTI-LOCK light is not on, check back-up light fuse in underdash fuse/relay box and replace if necessary.
- Disconnect gauge assembly 13-pin connector. Measure voltage between Yellow wire terminal of 13-pin harness connector and ground. If battery voltage is present, replace gauge assembly printed circuit board. If battery voltage is not present, repair open Yellow wire between back-up light fuse and gauge assembly.
- Remove instrument panel gauge assembly. See INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT Section. Check BRAKE warning light bulb. Replace as necessary. Reconnect gauge assembly 13-pin and 16-pin connectors if disconnected. Connect jumper wire between Green/Red wire terminal of 16-pin connector and ground.
- If BRAKE warning light does not come on, replace gauge assembly printed circuit board. If light comes on, connect jumper wire between parking brake switch connector and ground. If BRAKE warning light comes on, replace parking brake switch. If light does not come on, repair open Green/Red wire between gauge assembly and parking brake switch.
- Release parking brake lever. If BRAKE warning light does not go off, go to step 7). If light goes off, measure voltage between Green/Red wire terminal of control unit 26-pin harness connector and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open Green/Red wire between gauge assembly and control unit.
- Test drive vehicle at minimum speed of 6 MPH for at least 30 seconds. If ANTI-LOCK light comes on, replace control unit. If light does not come on, code was probably set because vehicle was driven with parking brake applied for more than 30 seconds.
- Check brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir. If brake fluid level is correct, go to next step. If fluid level is not correct, check front brake pad and brake system for leaks. If no problem is found, fill master cylinder reservoir to the correct level.
- Disconnect brake fluid level switch connectors. If BRAKE warning light goes off, replace brake fluid level switch. If light does not go off, check parking brake switch and replace if necessary. If switch is okay, disconnect control unit 26-pin connector.
- If BRAKE warning light goes off, replace control unit. If light does not go off, Green/Red wire between BRAKE warning light, parking brake switch and brake fluid level switch is shorted to ground.
