Code 45: Fuel Metering System
- Turn ignition off. Remove BACK-UP fuse (10-amp) from underhood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECM. Start engine, and allow cooling fan to come on. Road test using following procedure:
- With transaxle in D (A/T) or 3rd gear (M/T), cruise at exactly 35 MPH for 10 seconds.
- Release throttle, Allow vehicle to decelerate to less than 30 MPH.
- Accelerate to exactly 35 MPH and cruise for 10 seconds.
- Repeat procedure 10 times.
- Stop vehicle. Turn ignition off.
- Start vehicle. Repeat acceleration/deceleration procedure 5 times.
- Check ECM for fault codes. If Code 45 is not present, problem is intermittent and cannot be duplicated at this time.
- If Code 45 is present, turn ignition off. Check fuel pressure. See BASIC TESTING article in this section. Repair if necessary. If fuel pressure is okay, install known good MAP sensor. Repeat step 1). Check ECM for fault codes. If Code 45 is not present, replace original MAP sensor. If Code 45 is present, go to step 4).
- Install known good fuel injectors. Repeat steps 1) and 2). If Code 45 is not present, replace original fuel injectors. If Code 45 is still present, inspect fuel line between fuel injectors and fuel filter. If restriction is found, replace or repair as necessary. If no restriction is found, replace ECM and retest.
