Code P0117 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Low
- Connect and operate scan tester, following manufacturer's instructions. Read engine coolant temperature. If indicated coolant temperature is greater than 230°F (110°C), go to next step. If indicated coolant temperature is not greater than 230°F (110°C), problem is intermittent. Inspect for poor connections or loose wires associated with ECT sensor and ECM, then repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Unplug ECT connector. Turn ignition on. Read engine coolant temperature. If indicated coolant temperature is greater than 230°F (110°C), go to next step. If indicated coolant temperature is not greater than 230°F (110°C), replace ECT sensor.
- Turn ignition off. Unplug 22-pin connector "D" from ECM. Test for continuity between ECT sensor connector Red/White wire and ground. If continuity does not exist, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system. If continuity exists, repair Red/White wire.
