Code P0123 - Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Circuit High

  1. Connect and operate scan tester, following manufacturer's instructions. Turn ignition on. Read throttle position. If throttle position is not approximately 10 percent at closed throttle, and approximately 90 percent at open throttle, go to next step. If position is approximately 10 percent at closed throttle, and approximately 90 percent at open throttle, problem is intermittent. Inspect for poor connections or loose wires associated with TP sensor and ECM, then repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition off. Unplug TP sensor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Green/White and Yellow/White wires at harness connector. If voltage is not about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is about 5 volts, temporarily substitute known good TP sensor, then retest system.
  3. Measure voltage between ECM terminals D10 (Yellow/White wire) and D11 (Green/White wire). If voltage is about 5 volts, repair open Yellow/White or Green/White wire between ECM and sensor. If voltage is as specified, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system.
