Code P0441 - Incorrect Purge Flow

  1. Connect and operate scan tester, following manufacturer's instructions. Clear codes. Operate engine at 3000 RPM until fan comes on. Test-drive vehicle with A/T in D4 position at engine speed between 2000-2700 RPM. If Code 0441 appears, go to next step. If Code P0441 does not appear, problem is intermittent. Inspect for loose sensor, poor connections, or loose wires associated with purge control solenoid valve and ECM, then repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition off. Inspect all EVAP system vacuum lines for misrouting, leakage, restriction, or breakage. If vacuum lines are okay, go to next step. Repair or replace vacuum lines as necessary.
  3. Disconnect vacuum line from EVAP purge flow switch. Connect vacuum gauge to hose. Start and run engine at 2000 RPM. If vacuum is not less than 2.4 in. Hg, go to next step. If vacuum is less than 2.4 in. Hg, go to step 7).
  4. Turn ignition off. Reconnect vacuum hose which was disconnected in previous step. Disconnect upper vacuum hose from EVAP canister diaphragm. Connect vacuum gauge to hose. Start engine. If vacuum does not exist, go to next step. If vacuum exists, temporarily substitute known good EVAP control canister, then retest system.
  5. Unplug 2-pin connector from EVAP purge control solenoid valve. If vacuum now exists, go to next step. If vacuum does not exist, inspect for proper vacuum hose routing. If hose is okay, replace EVAP purge control solenoid valve.
  6. Turn ignition off. Unplug ECM 26-pin connector. Test for continuity between Red wire at EVAP purge control solenoid valve harness connector and ground. If continuity exists, repair shorted Red wire. If continuity does not exist, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system.
  7. Turn ignition off. Unplug ECM 8-pin connector. Test for continuity between ECM connector terminal B11 (Brown wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system. Unplug 2-pin connector from EVAP purge control switch. Test for continuity between ECM connector terminal B11 (Brown wire) and ground. If continuity exists, repair shorted Brown wire. If continuity does not exist, replace EVAP purge flow switch.
