P0122 - Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Circuit Low

  1. Connect and operate scan tester, following manufacturer's instructions. Turn ignition on. Read throttle position. If throttle position is not approximately 10 percent at closed throttle, and approximately 90 percent at open throttle, go to next step. If throttle position is approximately 10 percent at closed throttle, and approximately 90 percent at open throttle, problem is intermittent. Inspect for poor connections or loose wires at associated with TP sensor and ECM, then repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition off. Unplug TP sensor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Green/White and Yellow/White wires at harness connector. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 5 volts, inspect for open Green/White or Yellow/White wire between ECM and TP sensor, then repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system.
  3. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between sensor terminals No. 1 (Green/White wire on mating connector) and No. 2 (Red/Black wire on mating connector). If resistance is approximately 900 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not approximately 900 ohms, temporarily substitute known good TP sensor, then retest system.
  4. Measure resistance between sensor terminals No. 2 (Red/Black wire on mating connector) and No. 3 (Yellow/White wire on mating connector). If resistance is approximately 5000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not approximately 5000 ohms, temporarily substitute known good TP sensor, then retest system.
  5. Turn ignition off. Reconnect sensor wiring. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ECM terminal D6 (Red/Black wire) and D11 (Green/White wire). If voltage is not about 0.5 volt at closed throttle, and 4.5 volts at open throttle, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system.
  6. Turn ignition off. Unplug 22-pin connector from transmission control module. Measure voltage between ECM terminal D6 (Red/Black wire) and D11 (Green/White wire). If voltage is about 0.5 volt at closed throttle, and 4.5 volts at open throttle, temporarily substitute known good TCM, then retest system. If voltage is not as specified, repair shorted Red/Black wire between TP sensor, ECM, and TCM.
