Code 15 - Ignition Output Signal

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove BACK-UP fuse (7.5-amp) from underhood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECM. Retrieve codes. If Code 15 does not appear, problem is intermittent. Inspect for poor connections at ECM, igniter unit, and wiring harness connections. Test-drive vehicle, then retest.
  2. If Code 15 appears, turn ignition off. Unplug 2-pin connector from distributor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Black/Yellow wire and body ground. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between ignition switch and distributor connector.
  3. Turn ignition off. Reconnect wiring to distributor. Connect ECM Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A ) between ECM and ECM harness. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between test terminal A26 (-) and test terminal A21 (+).
    NOTE: A short in Yellow/Green wire between igniter unit and ECM may damage igniter unit. Recheck igniter unit.
  4. If voltage is not about 10 volts, inspect for open or short in Yellow/Green wire between igniter unit and ECM terminal A21. If wire is okay, replace igniter. If voltage is about 10 volts, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system.
