Code 6-4: Rear Fail-Safe Relay
- Start engine. If ABS light does not go off, go to next step. If ABS light goes off, system is okay at this time. Check for damaged wire harness between ABS control unit, solenoids and rear fail-safe relay.
- Check for ABS trouble codes. If Code 6-4 is not set, perform appropriate trouble code test. If Code 6-4 is set, test rear fail-safe relay and replace if necessary. See RELAY TEST under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Disconnect modulator 14-pin connector.
- Visually check modulator wire harness for damage and repair or replace as necessary. If wire harness is okay, start engine. Measure voltage between Blue/Black wire terminal of rear fail-safe relay connector and ground.
- If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, Blue/Black wire between rear fail-safe relay and modulator is shorted to power.
- Stop engine. Disconnect ABS control unit 26-pin connector. Start engine. Measure voltage between Red/White wire terminal of 26-pin connector and ground. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, Red/White wire between ABS control unit and modulator is shorted to power.
- Measure voltage between Yellow/White wire terminal of 26-pin connector and ground. If battery voltage exists, Yellow/White wire between ABS control unit and modulator is shorted to power. If battery voltage does not exist, check for loose ABS control unit connectors. If connectors are okay, install known-good ABS control unit and retest.
