Code 17 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- Turn ignition off. Remove BACK-UP fuse (7.5-amp) from underhood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECM. Road-test vehicle. While in 2nd gear, accelerate until engine speed reaches 4000 RPM and then, with throttle fully closed, decelerate to 1500 RPM.
- Retrieve codes. If Code 17 does not appear, problem is intermittent. Inspect for poor connections at ECM, underdash fuse box, and underdash wiring harness connectors. Test-drive vehicle and retest.
- If Code 17 exists, raise and support vehicle. Connect ECM Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A ) between ECM and ECM harness. See Figure . P lace transaxle in Neutral. Turn ignition on. Slowly rotate left front wheel while measuring voltage between test terminals A26 (-) and B10 (+). If voltage pulses 0-12 volts, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system.
- If voltage did not pulse 0-12 volts in step 3), turn ignition off. Unplug connector "B" from ECM. Turn ignition on. Block right front wheel. Rotate left front wheel while measuring voltage between test terminals A26 and B10.
- If voltage does not pulse 0-12 volts, repair short or open in Orange wire between ECM terminal B10 (+) and VSS or cruise control unit. If wire is okay, replace VSS. If voltage pulses 0-12 volts, temporarily substitute known good ECM, then retest system.
