Description & Operation: Notes

NOTE: For information on brake system, see BRAKE SYSTEM article and ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM article.

The Traction Control System (TCS) is used to control excess wheel spin during acceleration and cornering. Based on input signals, TCS determines if driving wheels are loosing traction due to excess acceleration, cornering, rough roads or loose/slippery road surfaces. TCS uses engine throttle control and/or sends signals to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) to prevent driving wheel spin during acceleration or cornering. The TCS consists of wheel sensors, TCS Control Unit (TCU), TCS valve actuator, Lateral Acceleration (Lg) sensor, steering angle detector, TCS ACTIVE indicator and TCS OFF indicator. See Fig 1 .
