Steering Column Tilt/Extend-Retract Motor

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any part of the SRS wire harness, install the short connectors. Do not disassemble or tamper with the airbag assembly.
WARNING: When a motor stops running, disconnect the power terminal immediately.
  1. Pry the courtesy light controller and TCS switch (LS) out from the dashboard lower cover, then remove the three screws, and remove the dashboard lower cover.
  2. Remove the steering column tilt cover.
  3. Disconnect the left side wire harness 2-pin connector from the tilt or extend-retract motor. See Fig 1 .
  4. Using jumper wires, test the motor in each direction by connecting power and ground. See TILT/EXTEND-RETRACT MOTOR TEST  table. If motor is not at limit of travel and does not move, replace steering column. See STEERING COLUMN (1994) or STEERING COLUMN (1995) article in STEERING.
