DTC P0401: EGR System

  1. Inspect air cleaner for damage, dirt, or debris. If air cleaner is okay, go to next step. Service air cleaner as necessary.
  2. Connect and operate scan tester, following manufacturer's instructions. Test-drive vehicle with no electrical load, with A/T in D4 position. Accelerate gradually from 50 MPH for at least 8 seconds. Retrieve codes. If DTC P0401 appears, go to next step. If DTC P0401 does not appear, failure was intermittent, but does not exist at this time.
  3. Clean intake manifold EGR port with carburetor cleaner. Clean passage inside EGR valve with carburetor cleaner, or replace EGR valve as necessary.
