IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS

Application (1) Base Idle RPM (2) Curb Idle RPM
3.2TL 500-520 600-700
(1) Transmission in "N" or "P" and IAC valve disconnected.
(2) Transmission in "N" or "P" and IAC valve connected.
  1. Ensure throttle cable is properly adjusted and throttle body is clean. Operate engine until cooling fan comes on. Check ignition timing. See IGNITION TIMING . After checking timing, ensure Service Check Connector Tool (07PAZ-0010100 ) is removed.
  2. Disconnect 2-pin connector from Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. See Fig 1. To obtain a tachometer signal, connect inductive tachometer to igniter secondary loop. See Fig 3. A tachometer signal can also be obtained from tach connector (located near igniter). See Fig 4.
  3. Check base idle speed with transmission in "N" or "P" with high beam headlights and rear window defogger on and all other accessories off (including cooling fan). See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. If base idle speed is not as specified, turn idle speed adjustment screw on throttle body until base idle speed is correct. See Fig 2. Recheck ignition timing. Turn ignition off and reconnect IAC valve connector. Start engine. Check curb idle speed with transmission in "N" or "P" and all accessories off. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS . If base idle speed is okay and curb idle speed is incorrect, check for faulty IAC valve.
