Checking Ignition Timing

  1. Operate engine until cooling fan comes on. Locate 2-pin service check connector (under glove box). Plug Service Check Connector Tool (07PAZ-0010100 ), into service check connector. Refer to Fig 1.
  2. Remove No. 1 coil. Install a length of secondary ignition wire between No. 1 coil and No. 1 spark plug. Connect inductive timing light to length of ignition wire.
  3. Ensure idle speed is within specification. See IDLE SPEED . Red (15° BTDC) mark on crankshaft pulley should align with pointer on front of engine. See Fig 2. If Red mark and pointer are not aligned, replace ECM/PCM. Timing g is not adjustable.

    (1) Service Check Connector Tool (07PAZ-0010100 ) must be installed before checking timing.
    (2) Manual transmission in Neutral.
    (3) Automatic transmission in Neutral or Park.
