April 5, 2026: LEMON Manuals is launched! Read the announcement.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Ensure brakes do not drag. Turn ignition on. If ABS indicator light comes on, go to next step. If ABS indicator light does not come on, see ABS INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON  under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Locate orange 6-pin ABS inspection connector under glove box. See Figure or Figure . Connect ABS Tester (07HAJ-SG0010B) to 6-pin ABS inspection connector. Put transmission in Park position (A/T).
  3. Start engine and release parking brake. Place ABS tester mode selector to position "1". Push START TEST button. See Fig 1 . TEST IN PROGRESS light should come on. ABS indicator light should not come on when TEST IN PROGRESS light is on. If ABS indicator light comes on, confirm DTC and see appropriate code under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS. If tester lights do not illuminate, ABS tester is faulty.
CAUTION: DO NOT move mode selector switch while TEST IN PROGRESS light is on. ABS tester could be damaged.
NOTE: Kickback on brake pedal should occur approximately 20 seconds after START TEST button is pushed. Wheel sensors and sensor wiring harnesses are not checked by ABS tester.

  4. Place ABS tester mode selector to position "2". Firmly depress brake pedal. Push START TEST button. ABS warning light should not come on while TEST IN PROGRESS light is on. Kickback should be felt on brake pedal. Have an assistant ensure controlled wheel can be rotated when there is kickback on brake pedal.
  5. If ABS indicator light comes on during test, confirm DTC and see appropriate code under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS  . If ABS indicator light does not come on and controlled wheel cannot be rotated, check ABS modulator wiring harness connectors. If connectors are okay, replace ABS modulator unit.
  6. Place ABS tester mode selector to position "3", "4" and then "5". Repeat steps 4) and 5) for each test mode. Breakdown of each test mode is as follows:
    1. Mode 1 -  Sends simulated driving signal (zero MPH to 113 MPH to zero MPH) of each wheel to control unit to check self-diagnostic circuit. No kickback should be felt in brake pedal.
    2. Mode 2 -  Sends driving signal of each wheel, and then sends lock signal of left rear wheel to control unit. Kickback should be felt in brake pedal.
    3. Mode 3 -  Sends driving signal of each wheel, and then sends lock signal of right rear wheel to control unit. Kickback should be felt in brake pedal.
    4. Mode 4 -  Sends driving signal of each wheel, and then sends lock signal of left front wheel to control unit. Kickback should be felt in brake pedal.
    5. Mode 5 -  Sends driving signal of each wheel, and then sends lock signal of right front wheel to control unit. Kickback should be felt in brake pedal.
    6. Mode 6 -  Not used on these models.
  7. If brake pedal does not kickback in Modes 2-5 as indicated and ABS indicator light does not come on, repeat ABS FUNCTION TEST. If test results remain unchanged, check for pressure switch stuck in ON position, clogged or stuck solenoid outlet valve or poor connections in ABS modulator wiring harness.
