DTC 6-1: A/T Shift Position Signal

  1. Disconnect PCM 26-pin connector "E" and TCS control unit 20-pin connector. Check for continuity between ground and PCM 26-pin connector "E" terminal No. 6 (Blue/Red wire). See Fig 1 . If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Blue/Red wire between TCS control unit 20-pin connector terminal No. 5 and PCM 26-pin connector "E" terminal No. 6. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  2. Reconnect PCM 26-pin connector "E". Ensure transmission is in Park position. Start engine. Measure voltage between ground and PCM 26-pin connector "E" terminal No. 6 (Blue/Red wire). See Fig 1 . Reading should be approximately 4 volts. If reading is as specified, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, check for poor connection to PCM. If connection is okay, replace PCM and retest system.
  3. Measure voltage between ground and TCS control unit 20-pin connector terminal No. 5 (Blue/Red wire) with transmission in Park position. See Figure . Reading should be approximately 4 volts. If reading is not as specified, repair open in Blue/Red wire between TCS control unit 20-pin connector terminal No. 5 and PCM 26-pin connector "E" terminal No. 6. If reading is as specified, check for poor connection at TCS control unit. If connection is okay, replace TCS control unit.
