Intermittent Symptom

  1. If MIL never illuminates after ignition is turned on, check for loose ECU fuse No. 14 (15-amp on M/T or 20-amp on A/T) in underhood fuse/relay box or loose BACK-UP LIGHTS, METER LIGHTS, CLOCK, SECURITY fuse No. 1 (10-amp) in underdash fuse/relay box. Check for loose FUEL PUMP fuse No. 2 (15-amp) in underdash fuse/relay box.
  2. Check for an intermittent short in Light Green/Red wire between PCM 32-pin connector terminal No. 18 and MIL. Check for an intermittent short in Yellow/Red wire between PCM 31-pin connector terminal No. 19 and Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
  3. Check for an intermittent short in Yellow/Blue wire between PCM 31-pin connector terminal No. 28 and Throttle Position (TP) sensor, EGR valve lift sensor and/or fuel tank pressure sensor. Check for properly functioning PGM-FI main relay, see PGM-FI MAIN RELAY in BASIC TESTING article.
  4. If MIL stays on or illuminates after 2 seconds, check for intermittent short in Red wire between PCM 32-pin connector terminal No. 10 and service check connector located behind right kick panel. Check for intermittent short in Light Green/Red wire between PCM 32-pin connector terminal No. 18 and MIL.
