Valve Clearance: 2.5TL

  1. Ensure cylinder head temperature is less than 100°F (38°C). Loosen valve adjusting screw locknut and adjust valve clearance. Tighten locknut and recheck valve clearance. Tighten valve adjusting screw locknut to 14 ft. lbs. (19 N.m). After adjusting valves, ensure crankshaft pulley bolt is tightened to 181 ft. lbs. (245 N.m).
  2. Remove cylinder head cover and upper timing cover. Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise and align cylinder No. 1 TDC mark on engine side of camshaft sprocket with mark on cam holder. See Fig 1. Adjust valves on cylinder No. 1.
  3. Rotate crankshaft 144 degrees counterclockwise (camshaft sprocket will rotate 72 degrees). Align cylinder No. 2 TDC mark on camshaft sprocket with mark on cam holder. Repeat adjustment procedure on cylinder No. 2.
  4. Rotate crankshaft 144 degrees counterclockwise (camshaft sprocket will rotate 72 degrees) for each remaining cylinder. Repeat procedure on cylinders No. 4, No. 5 and then No. 3.
