Generator/Regulator Output Test: 3.0CL
- Hook up charging system tester according to manufacturer's instructions. Start engine and operate at 3000 RPM until radiator fan comes on, after fan comes on, let engine idle. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM and hold. Observe voltmeter. If more than 15.1 volts exists, replace voltage regulator. If 15.1 volts or less exists, go to next step.
- Return engine to idle. Ensure all accessories are off. Zero ammeter on tester. Connect inductive pick-up over generator terminal "B" (battery terminal wire). See Figure. Ensure arrow on inductive pick-up points away from generator. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM and hold. Observe voltmeter. If 12.5 volts or more exists, go to next step. If less than 12.5 volts exists, replace generator and repeat voltage test.
- While observing ammeter, apply load with carbon pile until battery voltage drops to 12-13.5 volts. If less than 75 amps has been applied, replace generator. If 75 amps or more has been applied, charging system is functioning properly.
