Valve Clearance: 2.3CL

  1. Ensure cylinder head temperature is less than 100°F (38°C). Remove cylinder head cover and upper timing belt cover.
  2. Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise until cylinder No. 1 is at TDC. TDC grooves on camshaft sprocket should be aligned with surface of cylinder head and UP mark on camshaft sprocket should be at top. Loosen valve adjusting screw lock nut and adjust valve clearance on cylinder No. 1. Tighten valve adjusting screw lock nut to 14 ft. lbs. and recheck valve clearance.
  3. Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise 180 degrees (camshaft sprocket will rotate 90 degrees) to bring No. 3 piston to TDC on compression stroke. Ensure UP mark on camshaft sprocket is on exhaust side. Adjust valves on cylinder No. 3.
  4. Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise 180 degrees (camshaft sprocket will rotate 90 degrees) to bring No. 4 piston to TDC on compression stroke. TDC grooves on camshaft sprocket should be aligned with surface of cylinder head and UP mark on camshaft sprocket should be pointing straight down. Adjust valves on cylinder No. 4.
  5. Rotate crankshaft counterclockwise 180 degrees (camshaft sprocket will rotate 90 degrees) to bring No. 2 piston to TDC on compression stroke. Ensure UP mark on camshaft sprocket is on intake side. Adjust valves on cylinder No. 2. After adjusting valves, reinstall removed components and ensure crankshaft pulley bolt is tightened to 181 ft. lbs. (245 N.m).
