Removal (2.3CL & 3.0CL)

  1. Disable air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Remove instrument panel lower cover and driver's knee bolster. Disconnect ignition switch 7-pin and 8-pin connectors from main harness.
  2. Remove steering column mounting bracket bolts. Lower steering column assembly. Center-punch both ignition lock shear bolts. Using a 3/16" bit, drill heads from bolts. Remove shear bolts and ignition lock. Remove shear bolts from switch body. Remove switch assembly. Remove 3 retaining screws and ignition switch.
