Description & Operation

All starters are 4-brush, solenoid-actuated, gear-reduction type, and are equipped with an overrunning clutch. Manual transmission (M/T) models use a starter relay and a clutch interlock switch. Automatic transmission (A/T) models use a starter relay and a neutral safety switch.

On Integra with manual transmission, starter relay is mounted in driver's footwell, behind kick panel. On Integra with automatic transmission, starter relay is not used.

On SLX, starter relay is plugged into underhood fuse relay panel. On 3.2TL, starter relay is located in driver's underdash fuse/relay box. On 3.5RL, starter relay is plugged into underdash fuse/relay box.

Voltage from positive battery terminal is continuously applied to ignition switch. Starter solenoid contacts are normally open. When ignition switch is turned to the START position (clutch interlock switch or neutral safety switch closed), battery voltage is applied to the starter solenoid coils and starter engages.
