Steering Column Control Unit Input

  1. Steering column control unit is located behind dashboard lower cover to right of steering column. See DASHBOARD LOWER COVER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect steering column control unit connectors and check for bent, loose or corroded terminals and repair as required. Perform first part of steering column control unit input test. See Fig 1 . Repair as necessary and recheck system operation. If steering column control unit tests are okay, go to next step.
  2. Reconnect steering column control unit connectors. Perform second part of steering column control unit input test at back of steering column control unit connectors (backprobe). See Fig 2 . Repair as necessary. If all tests are okay, go to next step.
  3. If all tests have proven okay, substitute steering column control unit with a known-good unit and recheck system operation. If system operates okay, replace original steering column control unit. If problem persists, check communication lines between steering column control unit and other control units (power seat control unit or power mirror control unit). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
