Preliminary Inspection

To check system operation, ensure shift lever is in "P" position. Turn ignition on. Depress brake pedal with accelerator pedal in idle position. If shift lock solenoid clicks, system is working properly. If shift lock solenoid fails to click, see appropriate INTERLOCK CONTROL UNIT  test under COMPONENT TESTS. If shift lever cannot be moved from "P" position, check A/T gear position switch. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article.
