Diagnostic Trouble Code Recognition
ABS/TCS control unit recognizes system related problems, stores Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and causes ABS or TCS indicator light to come on. ABS or TCS indicator light may come on when system is operating normally under any of following conditions:
- Only drive wheels are rotating.
- One drive wheel stuck.
- Vehicle spinout.
- ABS operating condition continues for long time.
- Electrical signal disturbance.
Additionally, TCS indicator may come on under the following conditions:
- Front brake pad temperature rises excessively.
- TCS switch is turned off.
- One or more of the closed-loop fuel system sensors malfunctions.
If ABS or TCS indicator light remains on, use scan tool to retrieve code(s). See RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS. Attempting to diagnose ABS/TCS system problems when indicator light is not on could lead to faulty diagnosis.
