Description & Operation
All starters are 4-brush, solenoid-actuated and are equipped with an overrunning clutch. 3.5RL is equipped with a gear-reduction type starter. The manual transmission (M/T) equipped Integra uses a starter relay and a clutch interlock switch. The automatic transmission (A/T) equipped Integra only uses an A/T gear position switch (no starter relay). All other models use a combination of a starter relay and an A/T gear position switch.
On Integra with M/T, starter relay is mounted in driver's footwell, behind left kick panel. On 3.2CL, 3.2TL and MDX, starter relay is plugged into driver's underdash fuse/relay block. On 3.5RL, starter relay is plugged into underdash fuse/relay block.
Voltage from positive battery terminal is continuously applied to ignition switch. Starter solenoid contacts are normally open. When ignition switch is turned to the START position (clutch interlock switch or neutral safety switch closed), battery voltage is applied to the starter solenoid coils and starter engages.
Each time battery is disconnected, PCM must be reset. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
