DTC P1683: Throttle Valve Default Position Spring Performance Problem

CAUTION: When substituting or replacement of PCM is recommended, see PCM REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT  for important precautions.
WARNING: DO NOT insert your fingers into installed throttle body when you turn ignition on or when ignition is on. Serious injury to your fingers will result if throttle valve is activated.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using Honda PGM Tester or the HDS, do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR menu. Start engine. Hold engine at 3000 RPM with no load in (Park or Neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let engine idle. Turn ignition off.
  2. Turn ignition on. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTC menu. If DTC P1683 is set, go to next step. If DTC P1683 is not set, check for poor connections or loose terminals at throttle body and at throttle actuator control module.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect air intake duct from throttle body. Push throttle valve closed. See Fig 1 . Release throttle valve. If throttle valve returns, go to next step . If throttle valve does not return, go to step  5 .
  4. Remove throttle body for cleaning. Be careful not to pinch fingers. See Fig 2 . Wipe off carbon deposits on throttle valve and inside throttle bore with a paper towel soaked in carburetor cleaner. Install throttle body. Go to step  6 .
  5. Replace throttle body.
  6. Turn ignition on. Using Honda PGM Tester or the HDS, do the PCM RESET in the CLEAR menu. Do the PCM idle learn procedure. See PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE  . Turn ignition off.
  7. Turn ignition on. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTC menu. If DTC P1683 is set, go to step  1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are set, troubleshoot those indicated. If DTC P1683 is not set, troubleshooting is complete.
