Without Keyless Access System 

TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Symptom Diagnostic procedure Also check for
Engine does not crank
  1. Check for PGM-Fl DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION )
  2. Check the PGM-Fl main relays (see POWER RELAY TEST )
  3. Check for loose battery terminals or connections
  4. Test the battery for a low state of charge (see BATTERY TEST )
  5. Check the starter (see STARTER SYSTEM CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING )
  6. Check the starter cut relay 1 and starter cut relay 2 (see POWER RELAY TEST )
  7. Check the transmission range switch (see TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH TEST )
  8. Check the ignition switch and its related circuits (see TEST )
Poor ground at G101
Engine cranks, but does not start
  1. Check for PGM-Fl DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION )
  2. Check for IMMOBI status and function (see ENGINE DOES NOT START WITH THE IMMOBILIZER KEY )
  3. Check the fuel pressure (see FUEL PRESSURE TEST )
  4. Check for a plugged or damaged fuel line (see FUEL LINE INSPECTION )
  5. Check for a plugged fuel filter
  6. Check the throttle body (see THROTTLE BODY TEST )
  7. Check for low engine compression
  8. Check for a damaged or broken timing belt
  9. Do the powertrain control module (PCM) reset in the PGM-Fl INSPECTION menu to cancel ALL INJECTORS STOP with the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS)
Weak or fouled spark plugs
Engine is hard to start
  1. Check for PGM-Fl DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION )
  2. Check the fuel pressure (see FUEL PRESSURE TEST )
  3. Check for a plugged or damaged fuel line (see FUEL LINE INSPECTION )
  4. Check for a plugged fuel filter
Weak or fouled spark plugs
Engine cranks slowly
  1. Check for loose battery terminals or connections
  2. Test the battery for a low state of charge (see BATTERY TEST )
  3. Check the starter for binding (see STARTER OVERHAUL )
  4. Check for excessive drag in the engine

With Keyless Access System 

TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Engine does not crank
  1. Check for loose battery terminals or connections
  2. Test the battery for a low state of charge (see BATTERY TEST )
  3. Check for PGM-FI DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION )
  4. Check for BODY DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION )
  5. Check the PGM-FI main relays (see POWER RELAY TEST )
  6. Check for symptom troubleshooting
  7. Check the starter (see WITH KEYLESS ACCESS SYSTEM )
  8. Check the starter cut relay 1 and starter cut relay 2 (see POWER RELAY TEST )
  9. Check the +B cut relay (M/T model) (see POWER RELAY TEST )
  10. Check the brake pedal position switch (see HIGH MOUNT BRAKE LIGHT REPLACEMENT )
  11. Check the transmission range switch (A/T model) (see TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH TEST )
  12. Check the engine start/stop switch or wire (see ENGINE START/STOP SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT )
  13. Check the clutch pedal position switch A (M/T model) (see Clutch Pedal Position Switch A Test )
Poor ground at G101
Engine cranks, but does not start
  1. Check for PGM-FI DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION )
  2. Check for keyless access system symptom troubleshooting information (see SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION )
  3. Check the fuel pressure (see FUEL PRESSURE TEST )
  4. Check for a plugged or damaged fuel line (see FUEL LINE INSPECTION )
  5. Check for a plugged fuel filter
  6. Check the throttle body (see THROTTLE BODY TEST )
  7. Check for low engine compression
  8. Check for a damaged or broken timing belt
  9. Do the powertrain control module (PCM) reset in the PGM-FI INSPECTION menu to cancel ALL INJECTORS STOP with the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS)
Weak or fouled spark plugs
Engine is hard to start
  1. Check for PGM-FI DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION )

  4. Check for a plugged fuel filter
