DTC B1836: Power Seat Position Sensor Circuit Short
NOTE:
If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A (see
TROUBLESHOOTING - B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE A
)
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode and then the ON mode
- Operate the power seat adjustment switch in all directions for more than 1 second each
- Check for DTCs with the HDS
Is DTC B1836 indicated?
YES -Go to step 5
NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time Check for loose or poor connections
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode
- Disconnect power seat control unit connector B (40P)
- Disconnect the 5P connector from each motor
- Check for continuity between body ground and power seat control unit connector B (40P) terminal No 15Fig 1: Checking Continuity Between Body Ground And Power Seat Control Unit Connector B (40P) Terminal 15

Is there continuity?
YES -Repair short to ground in the wire
NO -Go to step 9
- Check for continuity between body ground (motor body) and terminal No 2 of the slide motor/position sensorFig 2: Checking Continuity Between Body Ground (Motor Body) And Terminal 2 Of Slide Motor/ Position Sensor

Is there continuity?
YES -Repair or replace the slide motor/position sensor (see FRONT SEAT SLIDE MOTOR REPLACEMENT )
NO -Go to step 10
- Check for continuity between body ground (motor body) and terminal No 3 of the front up-down motor/position sensor, rear up-down motor/position sensor, and recline motor/position sensorFig 3: Checking Continuity Between Body Ground (Motor Body) And Terminal 3 Of Front Up-Down Motor/Position Sensor

Is there continuity?
YES -If the front or rear up-down motor/position sensor is faulty, replace the seat frame assembly If the recline motor/position sensor is faulty, replace the recline motor/position sensor
NO -Replace the power seat control unit (see POWER SEAT CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST/REPLACEMENT )
