Shift Cable Replacement

  1. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is supported securely.
  2. Remove the passenger's center console trim (see step 5 under CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  3. Remove the beverage holder inner case (see step 11 under CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  4. Move the shift lever to R.
  5. Remove the nut (A) securing the shift cable end (B).

  6. Press the holder lock release (A), and pull out the socket holder (B) to remove the shift cable (C) from the shift lever bracket base (D). Do not remove the shift cable by pulling the shift cable guide (E) and the damper (F).

  7. Do the battery removal procedure (see RECONNECTION ).
  8. Remove the main under-hood fuse box from the battery base.
  9. Remove the intake air duct and the air cleaner housing.
  10. Disconnect the transmission range switch connector.
  11. Remove the battery base and the battery base bracket.
  12. Remove the spring clip (A) and the control pin (B), then separate the shift cable end (C) from the control lever (D).

  13. Remove the nuts (A) securing the shift cable bracket (B).

  14. Remove the heat shield under the shift cable grommet.
  15. Remove the drain hose clamp (A) from the shift cable bracket (B).

  16. Remove the nuts securing the shift cable bracket.
  17. Remove the shift cable grommet (C), and pull out the shift cable (D).
  18. Insert a new shift cable through the grommet hole (E), and install the grommet in its hole. Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
  19. Install the shift cable bracket, and install the drain hose clamp on the bracket.
  20. Install the heat shield.
  21. Apply molybdenum grease to the center of the bushing (A) on the shift cable end (B). Attach the shift cable end to the control lever (C), then insert the control pin (D) into the control lever hole through the shift cable end, and secure the control pin with the spring clip (E).

  22. Connect the transmission range switch connector.
  23. Install the shift cable bracket (A) with the nuts (B).

  24. Install the battery base bracket and the battery base.
  25. Install the air cleaner housing and the intake air duct.
  26. Install the main under-hood fuse box on the battery base.
  27. Do the battery installation procedure (see RECONNECTION ).
  28. Install the shift cable, and adjust the shift cable (see step  6 under Shift Cable Adjustment  ).
