DTC 1801: HIP Error
USA models
- Check the vehicle battery condition first (see BATTERY TEST ).
- This navigation DTC sets when a problem (open or short) is detected in the COMM BUS.
- Before you troubleshoot, make sure to follow the General Troubleshooting Information .
- Check for and resolve any B-CAN DTCs before troubleshooting.
- Check any official Honda service website for any service information about the AcuraLink or software updates.
- Clear the hard error code .
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode, then back to ON (II), or the ON mode.
- Check for the hard error code .
Is DTC 1801 indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. ■
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P), and audio-navigation unit connector H (28P).
Are the connections or terminals OK?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - Repair poor connections or loose terminals, and recheck. ■
- Connect the HDS to the DLC (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
- Check for XM (HIP) communication with the HDS.
Does the XM (HIP) communicate with the HDS?
YES - Go to step 9.
NO - Go to AcuraLink troubleshooting. ■
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
- Disconnect AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and audio-navigation unit connector H (28P).
- Check for continuity between the terminals of AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) according to the table.

Is there continuity between any of terminals?
YES - There is a short in the wires between the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness. ■
NO - Go to step 12.
- Check for continuity between body ground and AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) terminals No. 17, No. 18, No. 19, and No. 20 individually.Fig 2: Checking Continuity Between Body Ground And AcuraLink Control Unit (XM Receiver) Connector A (32P) Terminals Individually

Is there continuity?
YES - There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness. ■
NO - Go to step 13.
- Connect AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) terminals No. 17, No. 18, No. 19, and No. 20 to body ground with jumper wires.
- Check for continuity between body ground and audio-navigation unit connector H (28P) terminals No. 9, No. 10, No. 22, and No. 23 individually.Fig 4: Checking Continuity Between Body Ground And Audio-Navigation Unit Connector H (28P) Terminals Individually

Is there continuity?
YES - Replace the audio-navigation unit . ■
NO - There is an open in the wire(s) between the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) and the audio-navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness. ■
