Key Interlock Solenoid Test

NOTE: SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ), and precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or servicing.

Remove the steering column covers (see SIDE DEFOGGER VENT TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
Disconnect the steering lock 6P connector (A).

Insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, then turn the ignition key to ACCESSORY (I).
Connect the positive battery terminal to steering lock assembly connector terminal No. 4, and connect the negative battery terminal to terminal No. 3. Check that the ignition key cannot be turned to LOCK (0). Release the battery terminals, and check that the key can be turned to the LOCK (0) position and removed from the cylinder.
If the key interlock solenoid works improperly, replace the ignition key cylinder/steering lock (see STEERING LOCK REPLACEMENT ).
