Symptom Troubleshooting Index

Symptom Diagnostic procedure Also check for
Charging system indicator does not come on with the ignition switch in ON (II), or the vehicle ignition in the ON mode Troubleshoot the charging system indicator circuit .  
Charging system indicator stays on
  1. Check for a broken drive belt .
  2. Troubleshoot the charging system indicator circuit .
  3. Check the drive belt  auto-tensioner.
  4. Check for PGM-FI DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
 
Battery discharged
  1. Check for a poor connection at the battery terminal.
  2. Test the battery (see BATTERY TEST ).
  3. Troubleshoot the alternator and regulator circuit .
  4. Check for a broken drive belt .
  5. Check the drive belt  auto-tensioner.
  6. Check for excessive parasitic electrical current draw with the ignition switch in LOCK (0), or the vehicle ignition in the OFF mode, and the key removed. The multiplex integrated control units may take up to 10 minutes to turn off (sleep mode).
 
Battery overcharged
  1. Test the battery (see BATTERY TEST ).
  2. Troubleshoot the alternator and regulator circuit .
