Symptom Troubleshooting Index

WITHOUT KEYLESS ACCESS SYSTEM

Symptom Diagnostic procedure Also check for
Engine does not crank
  1. Check for loose battery terminals or connections.
  2. Test the battery for a low state of charge (see BATTERY TEST ).
  3. Check the starter .
  4. Check starter cut relay 1 and starter cut relay 2 (see POWER RELAY TEST ).
  5. Check the transmission range switch (see TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH TEST ).
  6. Check the ignition switch and its related circuits (see IGNITION SWITCH TEST ).
Poor ground at G101
Engine cranks, but does not start
  1. Check for PGM-FI DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  2. Check the PGM-FI main relays (see POWER RELAY TEST ).
  3. Check for IMMOBI status and function (see ENGINE DOES NOT START WITH THE IMMOBILIZER KEY ).
  4. Check the fuel pressure (see FUEL PRESSURE TEST ).
  5. Check for a plugged or damaged fuel line:
  6. Check for a plugged fuel filter:
  7. Check the throttle body (see THROTTLE BODY TEST ).
  8. Check for low engine compression:
  9. Check for a damaged or broken timing belt.
  10. Do the PCM reset in the PGM-FI INSPECTION menu to cancel ALL INJECTORS STOP with the HDS.
  • Fuel level in tank
  • Weak or fouled spark plugs
Engine is hard to start
  1. Check for PGM-FI DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  2. Check the fuel pressure (see FUEL PRESSURE TEST ).
  3. Check for a plugged or damaged fuel line:
  4. Check for a plugged fuel filter:
Weak or fouled spark plugs
Engine cranks slowly
  1. Check for loose battery terminals or connections.
  2. Test the battery for a low state of charge (see BATTERY TEST ).
  3. Check the starter for binding .
  4. Check for excessive drag in the engine.

WITH KEYLESS ACCESS SYSTEM

Engine does not crank
  1. Check for loose battery terminals or connections.
  2. Test the battery for a low state of charge (see BATTERY TEST ).
  3. Check for BODY DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  4. Check for symptom troubleshooting:
  5. Check the starter (see ).
  6. Check starter cut relay 1 and starter cut relay 2 (see POWER RELAY TEST ).
  7. Check the +B cut relay (M/T model) (see POWER RELAY TEST ).
  8. Check the brake pedal position switch (see BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SWITCH TEST ).
  9. Check the clutch pedal position switch A (M/T model) .
  10. Check the transmission range switch (A/T model) (see TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH TEST ).
  11. Check the engine start/stop switch and its related circuits (see REAR BUMPER LF ANTENNA REPLACEMENT ).
Poor ground at G301 (M/T model) or G101 (A/T model)
Engine cranks, but does not start
  1. Check for PGM-FI DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  2. Check the PGM-FI main relays (see POWER RELAY TEST ).
  3. Check for keyless access system symptom troubleshooting information (see SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  4. Check the fuel pressure (see FUEL PRESSURE TEST ).
  5. Check for a plugged or damaged fuel line:
  6. Check for a plugged fuel filter.
  7. Check the throttle body (see THROTTLE BODY TEST ).
  8. Check for low engine compression:

  10. Do the ECM/PCM reset in the PGM-FI INSPECTION menu to cancel ALL INJECTORS STOP with the HDS.
  • Fuel level in tank

Engine is hard to start
